Guacamole 1.1.0 (2020-01-29)

I found that it does not work with the LDAP extension as it needs an extension being able to save data.

Another extension must be installed which supports storage of arbitrary data from other extensions. Currently the only extensions provided with Guacamole which support this kind of storage are the database authentication extensions.

https://guacamole.apache.org/doc/gug/totp-auth.html#totp-prerequisites

I think it’s not on a vhost. Do you want to be able to run it on a vhost? I could add a switch but I don’t know if we can go without /guacamole path.

Hi,

do you have problems installing/updating too, I tried different mirrors and neth repos.
Maybe wrong repomd.xml?

https://mirror.nethesis.it/nethserver/7.7.1908/nethforge/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno -1] repomd.xml signature could not be verified for *

EDIT:

Workaround:

yum --nogpg update

I’ve read up on another similar setup using DUO as the tfa app. I am going to see if this is an easy integration with the current setup and if so I’ll be happy.

Thank you very much for the great description!
I am already thinking about an own custom template but your description is so muchbetter than mine.

I hope my description was not to ambiguous and in case my less language knowledge makes my postings sounds unfriendly - let me make it clear - the nethserver project is really great and all supporters and developers make a really great “job”. In deutscher Sprache würde mir das viel leichter fallen, aber der Inhalt dieses Forums soll ja verständlicherweise allen zugänglich sein.

One comment about “The idea is to not include rarely needed functions…should we include an option to allow posix groups?” (where ca i cite here?):
I dont know the current centos/nethserver installation procedere (my last installation was summer 2019) but - as i remember - last summer was the creation of a posix admins a part of the basic installation procedere - with ssh and server-manager access.
Disabling posix-admins within nethserver (in general) increased the distance between the underlying centos system and nethserver (in my opinion).

It’s not that the TOTP auth doesn’t work at all but you need to add the users (group didn’t work) to database, by clicking on the ones you like to use TOTP and set “change own password” for that user.

I am afraid the duo extenstion works the same way. From the docs:

Guacamole supports Duo as a second authentication factor

Last way I see is using LDAP instead of mariadb for saving guacamole information but I initially wanted to avoid it. It seems OpenLDAP is supported and for AD I found a PDF.

if we can have something like remote.server.tld but it adds /guacamole when a user visits, no problem with that

I’m sorry it was my mistake. A similar issue was affecting other repositories too. It should be fixed now.

Thanks to @mrmarkuz @dnutan @alep for pointing it out.

No problem.

You are right, it’s misleading but I didn’t find a possibility to surpress it.

It’s documented here as it is not listed as required.

I have implemented two ways to secure vpn

One is pending tests if you want to have a go, all users are forced to otp, a user needs to give only the otp_pin instead of his password

The otherPR related is to increase security, in short to explain, now you can login with a good login/password and with the certificate of another user, this issue solves it

I tested another way to add otp with googleauthenticators, for now it is just a PR not merged, the advantages of GA are

all users are not forced to otp
users must give their password + otp_pin in the same input

cons, the recovery code displayed in the UI are not valid

In the example above I was using pfSense to handle my letsencrypt certificates renewal and reverse proxy because of how easy it is to implement.

If you wanted to do the same with a self contained NS install you need to do the following:

  1. Create an alias for your NS server/TLD (example guacdemo.yourdoamin.com)
  2. Create a LetsEncrypt Certificate for your TDL (NOTE you can request multiple alias such as remote/nextcloud/guacdemo during this step)
  3. Install Reverse Proxy from the Software Center
  4. Create Reverse Proxy rule as desired.
